Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy (LLLT) is an FDA approved therapeutic treatment. It is painless, uses no drugs or surgery, and is not addictive. With a few simple common-sense precautions, there are no side effects.

“According to the more than 4000 studies on pubmed.gov, it can be concluded that the majority of laboratory and clinical studies have demonstrated that LLLT has a positive effect on acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain.

LASER has an exciting history with Einstein and Bose, two of the world’s greatest men of science who predicted the technology in 1924. As we know it, LASER celebrates over 50 years in medical applications starting with wound healing and other studies by Dr. Endre Mester in Hungary.

LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. When created in this way, light is then culminated producing a single stable frequency in a focused direction.

Despite the highly publicized hazards of sunlight exposure using sunlight as a healing therapy dates back to ancient civilizations in Egypt, Greece, and Rome, when individuals would sunbathe to heal certain conditions. Targeted light therapies, such as LLLT amplify the healing potential of light without the risk of sunburn or skin cancer to treat a variety of conditions. – The Chopra Center

LLLT is proven effective with thousands of clinical studies for a vast array of conditions:

  • Inflammatory conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fascitis, Tennis/Golfers elbow, and Bursitis
  • Connective tissue disorders such as sprains, strains, tendonitis and tendon ruptures
  • Pain Management for Fibromyalgia, Neck pain, Midback pain, and Low Back pain
  • Joint injuries such as Osteoarthritis, Shoulder injuries, ligament injuries, and TMJ
  • Muscle injury such as bruises, ruptures, and contractures such as Frozen Shoulder
  • Neurological injuries such as bulging, ruptured or herniated discs, neuritis and Diabetic Neuropathy

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) quickly reduces the duration of inflammation and enhances specific repair and healing. LLLT has been proven to provide pain relief, and to reduce damage due to the injury and loss of function. LLLT enables the body to have a more rapid repair and stronger tissues once healed.

Overall, results from LLLT dramatically decrease pain and inflammation and speed the body’s ability to heal itself. LLLT actually “heals” tissue and is a powerful non-addictive form of pain management.

Physiological Effects Of LLLT

Improved blood circulation and vasodilation which help to speed anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling effects with a decrease in pain.

What Are The Benefits Of LLLT?

  • Relieves acute and chronic pain
  • Decreases inflammation
  • Faster regeneration of new and healthy cells and tissue
  • Develops collagen and muscle tissue
  • Stimulates nerve function
  • Stimulates the immune system
  • Increases blood supply
  • Tissue repair is faster, with better quality and tissue strength

How Does It Work?

Simplistically put, photonic energy is absorbed by their acceptor sites on the outside of the cell called the membrane. Kind of like fitting a key into a lock. This triggers a secondary messenger to initiate a cascade of signals between the cells that start, lessen or accelerate biological processes such as wound healing, inflammation, or pain management. The laser beam directs its laser photons in ways that activate pain management in the body to relieve pain.

What Are The Side Effects?

Patient safety is our first priority. LLLT used in this office is safe, non-toxic and non-invasive. There are some necessary common sense precautions taken such as protective eyewear and avoiding pointing the laser beam directly into the eye and maintaining it there, which could damage the eye.

How Do You Know If LLLT Is Right For You?

  1. Does pain wake you up at night?
  2. Do you take pain medications more than three times each week?
  3. Do you suffer from repetitive stress injuries such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Tennis Elbow?
  4. Do you suffer pain from an old or new sports injury or accident?
  5. Do you need to stop walking on your feet due to Plantar Myofascitis?
  6. Do you have Diabetic Neuropathy?

How Long Are The Treatments?

Treatments can vary from seconds to minutes. Clinical studies show that depending on the condition, it may be more effective to treat at lower doses multiple times then to treat one time with a higher dose.

Will You Provide Multiple Services To Get Me Better Faster?

LLLT combined with Chiropractic adjustments, foot orthotics or acupuncture may provide faster relief and healing than just LLLT alone. Dr. Catherine Lomartra will discuss your condition in detail and make her recommendations for your particular case.

It typically takes a series of LLLT sessions to produce results. If your condition is new, fewer sessions are needed. For more chronic conditions more sessions are needed. Unfortunately, insurance providers do not cover LLLT at this time. We have care programs in place to make it affordable for most everyone.
